The Cultural Aspects of the Baroque Period of the Habsburg Monarchy
Emperor Leopold I of the Habsburg Empire (1658-1705) was the cousin of Louis XIV of France and shared with his cousin a great admiration and patronage of the arts. Leopold saw the benefits of a cultural transformation, well aware of how it worked for France politically and was constantly engaged in rivalry with Louis.
His successors, Emperors Joseph I and Karl IV continued this patronage of the arts. Because of this, all three, were responsible for the establishment of Baroque at the court
Architecture
Leopoldskron Castle: Built in 1736, this palace was commissioned by Prince Archbishop Leopold Anton Firmian. he castle is well-known for its elaborate stucco works. Built in Salzburg.
Klessheim Palace: Built in 1709, the palace had many stages of completion. The final stage was completed by Prince Archbishop Leopold Anton Firmian. Built in Salzburg.

Johann Liss (c. 1595 - 1629) German Baroque painter, but mainly produced works in Venice. His main focus through painting was his emphasis on light and shade
Adam Elsheimer (1578-1610) German artist who worked mainly in Rome. He painted mostly on copper plates, a style sometimes referred to as the cabinet style. He was a big influence on Rembrandt.
Jörg Zürn (c. 1583–c. 1635) German sculptor famous for the Uberlingen altar which took him 6 years to complete, starting in 1613. His work is mainly derived from Gothic styles.
